INSTALLATION: INTERLOCKING GRID SHELL BASED ON FULLER’S DOME

In 1966  Buckminster Fuller gave the 1966 Kassler lecture at the Princeton University School of Architecture.  In this lecture he reflected on his main concepts and realizations.  To mark the occasion a large aluminum dome was built by the SOA students.

A little less than 50 years later to celebrate the book launch, the Form Finding Lab, built the first interlocking gridshell at the Engineering Courtyard of the E-Quad, Princeton.  The shell is made of individual laser cut luan laths and reflects the geodesic dome geometry.    The design is by Yousef Anastas. The shell was erected in less than one day (and night).
