BENDING ACTIVE STRUCTURES

Julian Lienhard’s talk will give general insight into form-finding and structural analysis of bending-active structures. Several case studies will underline the potential of active-bending in generating new structural forms; ranging from complex curved geometries for static structures, to shape adaptation possibilities, and finally elastic kinetics, which are entirely based on reversible deformation.  Biomimetics and several modelling techniques will be presented as an approach to form-finding as well as a source of inspiration for basic principles.
